A Message from the Chairman
I have now been your Chairman for just over 18 months and how much I have enjoyed it! It has been hard work trying to fit everything into the very busy schedule that is the bane of the BICSc Chairman and I am grateful to my company for allowing me the time to carry out my duties, without complaint. I say that it's been hard work but I can assure you that it's been worthwhile!
For example, there's the Annual Awards Dinner where I had to give out BICSc and other awards, I've been to Belfast to do the same with our Northern Ireland colleagues, the Scottish Annual Seminar and Dinner where I gave out Fellowships, and very well deserved they were too, but most of all, I have been really impressed with the enthusiasm that now abounds within the Institute and the very much higher level of regard it commands.
This is due in no small part to the work put in over the years by members of the various Committees of the Institute, its National, Regional and Branch members all of whom have put in a tremendous effort in arranging a variety of exhibitions and functions for members to attend, network and learn.
I know that we should like to see more of you attending these functions and taking part, helping to extend our organisation onto an even higher plane whilst at the same time hopefully helping to expand your own knowledge and understanding of our institute and industry.
There are of course still some areas that need work including the delivery of a BICSc Management qualification (the follow-on qualification from the Supervisor's qualification introduced by BICSc last year), re-activation of inactive Branches, increased member benefits and a streamlined system of delivery of our products and services. Not to mention levering in finance to support these initiatives, making sure that systems are not only policed correctly but remain fit for purpose. I know also our Head Office staff would welcome any suggestions, support or ideas and are more than happy to help and assist in any way possible to raise the profile of the Institute.
Finally though, I would like to say thank you to you all for allowing me the privilege of being your chairman. I can assure you that I will do all that I can to ensure our Institute continues to grow both in numbers and prestige.
Chairman: Robert Young FBICSc
