With the use of any chemical material, it is our expectation that there should be access to a Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) and COSHH Risk Assessment.
Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS): This document is provided by the supplier/manufacturer and will provide a range of information for the safe use, handling and storage of the material from which COSHH Risk Assessment can be undertaken. It is recommended that the responsible person ensures that the document is the latest version.
COSHH Risk Assessment: This is a document produced by the Employer/Responsible Person that summarises the Health & Safety implications in the use of this material and the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Training/Assessment expectations: During training it will be expected that the candidate will be instructed about the use of MSDS and COSHH Risk Assessment documents. For the assessment, the minimum expectation would be that the candidate would refer to the COSHH Risk Assessment for the correct selection and use of PPE during the skill and knowledge of where the MSDS document is kept.
Audit expectations: There will be a current MSDS and COSHH Risk Assessment for every chemical/material accessible in that facility.
