Meet the Fellows of 2021

The Membership grade of Fellow is awarded by BICSc council for voluntary services to the Institute, they are also offered to Institute award winners. Fellows can remain as paying members of the Institute or accept the honorary grade.

This year BICSc Council chose Dr. Andrew Kemp, voluntary Head of the BICSc Scientific Advisory Board.

2021 Institute award winners Godefridus Johannes Veneman (Frank), Hamid Ghadry and Nigel Lea have also been awarded with Fellowships.  

Andrew Kemp PhD, FBICSc

Andrew has achieved an impressive CV. He is a retired British Army Officer who studied biological warfare whilst serving.  After leaving the army, he worked for 8 years in various NHS roles related to infection control.  He completed a PhD in biology specialising in disinfectants.  He became the head of the BICSc Scientific Advisory Board in 2017.  He also currently advises multiple organisations and government departments on issues surrounding disinfection and decontamination, and he continues to lecture part-time on infection control courses at Lincoln University.

Godefridus Johannes Veneman AKA Frank, FBICSc – Winner of The International Award for Raising the Profile of the Cleaning Industry

Frank is a well-known figure within the European cleaning industry. He is a board member of VSR (Dutch Cleaning Research Institute) and with his support, VSR has a bi-lateral agreement with BICSc, which allows BICSc members access to technical papers including an in-depth study of the use and science of microfibre cleaning. His unwavering support as a member of BICSc has seen him attend most AGMs in person and, internationally, he extolls the BICSc ethos and principles. His exceptional technical knowledge in both scientific applications and mathematical equations is renowned within the cleaning industry..

Nigel Lea, FBICSc – Winner of The Chairman’s Award

This is the Institute’s premier accolade which is presented to an individual who has demonstrated an outstanding contribution to the Institute and the cleaning industry.

Nigel Lea is the National Partnerships manager at Citation, who are strong advocates of BICSc. Nigel plays a pivotal role in promoting and supporting the Institute, he is a natural when it comes to maintaining excellent customer relations and continually plays a part in attracting new members from other sectors to BICSc.

Hamid Ghadry, FBICSc – Winner of The Eric Hill Medal

Hamid has a long-standing connection, and some might say love for all things BICSc. He has successfully implemented a BICSc training programme into the numerous organisations he has worked with. He’s been responsible for successfully orchestrating the delivery of BICSc Training to hundreds of cleaning operatives. Hamid will be returning to BICSc Council as a co-opted member and now finds himself closer to BICSc than ever as the service delivery manager at the University of Northampton.
