REPORT ON REGIONAL MEETING HELD ON 27th MARCH 2014
Chris James, a former Director of Education of BICSc and now Chief Executive Officer of the Waste Industry Training Board, addressed attentive members of the North-West Region on reducing costs and extra profit, particularly through convergence of cleaning and waste. His presentation followed an excellent free buffet, enjoyed by all.
Chris’s presentation clearly showed that he had a wide range of detailed knowledge of statistics concerning both waste of materials and the benefits that can be obtained by recycling and recovering waste materials. For example, the average family wastes £60 a month by throwing away food. Recovered scrap paper can be worth about £80 per tonne and aluminium over £800 per tonne.
A lively session of questions and discussion followed. It was evident from comments afterwards that Chris’s presentation had raised a lot of interest and food for thought.
