BICSc North East Region - Visit to the 'Yorkshire Air Museum' - Education, Membership and training within the cleaning industry | BICSc

From an initial planned social activity for some with a personal interest in memorabilia and aeroplanes, the recent meeting of members and colleagues from the BICSc North East Region became an enlightening and most enjoyable day.

The day started with being billeted to the mess room for morning coffee and pastries with introductions, and updates from members on their latest news.

Opportunities were taken by many of the attendees to provide updates to BICSc members. These included commercial updates from Jangro, an insight into the product range from Ace Janitorial, Diversey company developments and reports on the changes within Local Authorities.

Lynn Webster gave a report on National Council, CIMS and the work of the Short Life Working Group (who are currently developing the Best Value Document). We welcomed Matt Dean, the Team Leader for the verification team who gave an excellent update on education and training including the recently updated CPSS 2.0.

Then ready to see the exhibits, the guides showed some rare examples of flight and provided a fabulous history lesson to the attendees. Interactive activities proved that none were competent in handling the machine guns. Discussions continued with concern for working in confined spaces of the cockpit, reflections during some of the PPE issued in operations and sharing stories of grandparents, uncles and other loved ones both who survived or were lost on active service.

Finally we were delivered back to the mess room for Lunch kindly sponsored by some of our supplier members and a request from the guards to let us provide our expertise for the cleaning of the site exhibits.

Do BICSc have need of a new skill for aircraft pre WW2? ... Perhaps not widely required.
