Message from the National Chair

Bill McMillan FBICSc

To be elected chairman of this wonderful Institution is a great honour and I sincerely thank the members of council for electing me. I promise to repay their confidence in me, by assuring them that I will take every opportunity available to me to advance the cause of the Institute and its members, under my stewardship for the next two years.

As you know, each year in September at our annual Awards and Dinner evening we acknowledge certain individuals and organisations for their contribution and excellence in training and assessment provision within the Cleaning Industry. We also recognise those members who have unselfishly gave of their time for the benefit of the Institute and indeed the cleaning Industry as a whole over many years.

Throughout the history of the Institute we have been able to recognise those achievements because of those who created the Institute, those who had the vision of realising that the Industry needed a qualifications platform and a national recognised education standard.

However we cannot rest on our past achievements, we need to ensure that the Institute maintains its position as the recognised standard within an ever changing industry.

As you know, we have developed the Cleaning Professional Skills Suite (CPSS) to replace the old COPC scheme. The CPSS scheme is a totally robust and fully professional product that will stand up to the rigorous demands of the 21st Century.

We are also developing and re-designing other products such as our car valeting qualification, as well as our new OPL (On Premise Laundry) qualification, which is being launched during the first quarter of 2014. It is my intention during my two years in office with the help of Council and others to continually progress and create new products for our industry and other associated market areas, as well as a continued development of our existing products.

All of this will ensure that the Institute has everything it needs, to be in a position where the Cleaning Industry continues to acknowledge that BICSc is the quality standard that companies require for the future success of their businesses!

In recognising where we are today, we acknowledge our past achievements and we look forward to the future, knowing that we have the knowledge, expertise and a continued national recognition of our qualifications that assist the cleaning operative to obtain a quality standard that is second to none in the industry.
