The Northern Ireland Cleaning Operative of the Year Awards 2015 - Education, Membership and training within the cleaning industry | BICSc

BICSc is the largest independent, professional and vocational body within the cleaning industry and the Cleaning Operative of the Year Awards give recognition for the essential services that staff provide.

The awards are divided into 6 categories; Education, Retail, Manufacturing, Health, Office, and Hospitality & Leisure.

Last year’s overall winner was Tracey Peters, a Domestic Assistant based in Holywell Hospital, in County Antrim, she also won the Health category.

She said “I am delighted to have won this award. I enjoy the variety my job brings and meeting different clients and staff. The Trust is keen to promote a culture of continuous learning so I have enjoyed being able to develop my learning and skills to help me achieve my full potential”.

Being recognised this way was a huge boost to the Northern Health and Social Care Trust in Northern Ireland and Maire Bermingham, Assistant Director of Corporate Support Services at the Trust said; “the Trust supports the training of domestic services staff to the BICSc standard, which ensures we have a professional cleaning service for all patients, clients and visitors. This award is hugely valued by the Trust and demonstrates our commitment to standards to the public we support.”

The Cleaning Operative of the Year Awards highlight the high standards which are being achieved in the cleaning and FM sectors, and show that quality training and assessment can bring huge benefits to both employers and employees.

Peter Hirthe, Chairman of BICSc Northern Ireland Region said; “I am delighted to invite all cleaning operatives from across the sectors, to take part in this year’s awards. The awards give long overdue recognition for the essential and often undervalued service that we too often take for granted.”

Last year’s awards presentation took place at Belfast City Hall and all of the category finalists were in attendance along with their company representatives.

The room was packed to the rafters and there were keynote speeches from BICSc Group CEO Stan Atkins, and National Chairman Bill McMillan, who commented on how difficult the judging was this year.

The category winners came from a wide section of public bodies and cleaning companies, based right across the province.
