Sussex Estates and Facilities partnership

BICSc Champion Appointed at Sussex Estates and Facilities

The University of Sussex and Interserve have teamed up to create an entity now known as Sussex Estates and Facilities partnership. This marks an exciting new chapter in the delivery of the University’s Estates and Facilities Management (EFM) services. The partnership aims to improve the campus experience for students and campus users. In doing this, it also aims to improve staff development, benefit their careers and make the University of Sussex a shining example of EFM within the university section.

New and Exciting Partnership

Transferring employees into the new fold has received a warm welcome. The staff will now be working in providing services for a company where EFM actions are not merely a supporting activity, but where their skillful delivery is the core focus. Every role is considered front of house thus we are empowering staff to contribute to a positive experience for all campus users.

Improving Cleaning Standards

Sussex Estates and Facilities LLP (SEF) are committed to improving the cleaning standards across the University of Sussex estate. The education model selected to ensure a smooth transition to a consistent cleaning standard across the estate focused on quality outcomes is the British Institute of Cleaning Science “Best Practice” model.
All staff will become practitioners of BICSc. We engaged the services of Environmental Excellence Education to deliver a range of programmes to our teams. Delia Cannings, a recognised, experienced and successful educator in this field is working with us to ensure our aims and objectives are met. All staff will be supported to obtain their licence to practice, along with being certificated with some specific cleaning skills from CPSS 2.0.
Several members of the team have been appointed as assessors for the scheme, and they will encourage all cleaning operatives to embrace and train in new skills. Hamid Ghadry has recently been appointed as the BICSc Champion to oversee the project. He brings with him a wealth of valuable experience and positivity.

Goals and Projects

Hamid said “Our ultimate goal is the creation of a “Centre of Excellence” at the University of Sussex. To achieve this, we have developed a comprehensive training programme. Initially, seven building managers will be trained and assessed to BICSc Standards. The skills will then be cascaded throughout the workforce of 210 housekeeping and caretaking staff. This is a huge undertaking and demonstrates the core belief, support and commitment of the University of Sussex and Sussex Estates and Facilities LLP in providing excellent services to our service users.

I welcome the challenge and applaud the British Institute in enabling such recognition. It is my intention to lead this team in securing our place amongst the top universities in the country for the provision of excellent facilities management services“.
