Mandatory Units (Licence to Practice)

The BICSc Licence to Practice provides the foundation units necessary for a Cleaning Operative to perform their role safely and efficiently. 


All operatives who complete their Licence to Practice are issued with a Licence to Practice Card and will receive a three-year membership to the Institute as a Practitioner Grade member (PBICSc).

Course Details

To gain your “Licence to Practice” card you will need to complete the three mandatory units from The Cleaning Professional’s Skills Suite (CPSS 2.0):


  • MU1 – Chemical competence
  • MU2 – Safe assembly and care of equipment
  • MU3 – Storage of equipment and materials
Course Delivery

Delivery of the Licence to Practice is interactive using a mixture of presentations, exercises and discussion sessions. The course is 80% practical and builds upon the knowledge, skills and behaviours expected by the industry.

  • To introduce the principles associated with the Mandatory units
  • Training and assessment of the Mandatory units
  • MU3 – Storage of equipment and materials
  • Take the opportunity to share best practice and discuss operational activity to promote quality delivery and consistency when undertaking BICSc training and assessment
Course Objectives
  • Achievement of the Licence to Practice (PBICSc) card
  • Demonstrate an understanding of Health and Safety in relation to the Mandatory units
  • Understand the impact and practical implications of selected equipment
  • Be aware of safe techniques and engage a systematic process
  • Discuss and share best practice in the delivery of The Cleaning Professional’s Skills Suite (CPSS 2.0)
