Patrick Walton is one of a very dedicated team at RBKC, along with Rafiu Ogunyinka and Dwight Dailey, completing the trio.

Patrick was kind enough to answer our questions about both the assessor and trainer roles; however, all three work very closely together and divide the training and assessment days professionally and cheerfully.

There is a real sense of pride in the centre, and the staff are always excited when offered further training of any description – but they particularly enjoy their practical skills training and assessment, sometimes a little competitively!

The team have been assessors since November 2023, although Patrick’s involvement with BICSc dates back to the Cleaning Operator’s Proficiency Certificate (COPC) which, as we all know, was replaced many years ago with the Cleaning Professional’s Skills Suite (CPSS), but is still fondly remembered by those of us who have been around a little longer.

I can honestly say that RBKC are a wonderfully infectious, bubbly team who truly enjoy their roles.

Tell us all about yourself

“My name is Patrick Walton, and I am proud to serve as a manager at RBKC, as well as a dedicated BICSc Licensed Assessor and Accredited Trainer. I come from a background rooted in public service and professional development, and I’ve built my career around helping others grow, achieve, and succeed.

At The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea (RBKC), our mission is to provide safe, high‑quality, well‑maintained environments for our residents, staff, and visitors. A key part of that work is ensuring cleaning standards are not only met but consistently delivered at an exceptional – level this is where BICSc plays a vital role.

As part of my position, I support individuals across the organisation to learn, develop, and gain recognised skills through BICSc training. My work involves guiding candidates, assessing their performance, and ensuring they gain the competence and confidence needed to operate to the highest professional standards.”

What do you do in your role as a BICSc Licensed Assessor and Accredited Trainer?

“As a certified BICSc Accredited Trainer and Licensed Assessor, I:

  • Deliver high‑quality, structured training to help candidates understand professional cleaning methods.
  • Assess skills and ensure candidates meet BICSc industry‑leading standards.
  • Encourage safe working practices by following the BICSc framework.
  • Support staff with ongoing development, confidence‑building, and professional growth.
  • Promote a consistent, efficient, and high‑standard cleaning service across our organisation.

I take great pride in watching people build new skills, grow in confidence, and progress in their careers through the qualifications I help them achieve.”

What is your favourite part of training?

“My favourite part of BICSc training is seeing the moment things click for candidates.

When someone realises, “I can do this” that’s the moment I enjoy the most.

I also love the practical side of training: introducing techniques, seeing candidates try them, correcting, encouraging, and then watching them master the skill. The transformation from uncertainty to competence is always rewarding.”

What advice would you give to new candidates?

“If you’re new to BICSc training, my biggest advice is:

  1. Take your time.

The training isn’t a race. Go at a pace that lets you fully understand each step.

  1. Don’t be afraid to ask questions.

No question is too small. The more you ask, the more you learn.

  1. Trust the process.

BICSc methods are designed to help you work safer, smarter, and more effectively.

  1. Practice makes perfect.

Every skill improves with repetition. The more you practice correctly, the more confident you become.

  1. Enjoy the journey.

Training is not just about passing – it’s about growing, developing, and building a professional standard you can be proud of.”

We hope you’ve enjoyed learning more about Patrick as much as we have, and that his insights and experiences have inspired you.
