Animated Short Film 'Of All The Things' Shedding Light on Hoarding Disorder Wraps Production

Kino Bino, the Leicester-based animation studio, is excited to announce that its animated short film ‘Of All The Things’ is completed and had it’s premiere during Hoarding Awareness Week on May 15th.

Supported by the BFI NETWORK and partly funded by the National Lottery, as well as a successful crowdfunding campaign and a host of sponsors: Holistic Hoarding, Accent Housing, WBR Group, DMUEngage, BICSc, Ford Fine Art, Ideal Services Group, Amplius, Cadent Gas, Northern Gas Networks, Jigsaw Homes, Peabody and Orbit Group. These backers have played a crucial role in bringing this film to life.

The animation focuses on a mother-daughter relationship, exploring the emotional challenges of living with hoarding disorder. Director Steff Lee, who drew inspiration from her own lived experience, reflects on the personal significance of the project.

“As the child of someone with hoarding behaviours, I’ve grappled with the stigma and shame surrounding the condition. Through my own journey to understanding and acceptance, I’ve been inspired to create a film that sheds light on the human side of this often overlooked mental health issue. I hope this film can be a conversation starter, breaking the stigma, and offering visibility to those affected by hoarding disorder.”

Andrew Gregory, the health editor of The Guardian, is executive producing Of All The Things via his production banner Brungerley. “Hoarding disorder affects millions of people around the world but is rarely discussed and often misunderstood,” he says. “We hope our film will raise awareness, reduce stigma and resonate with audiences everywhere.”

Producer Bella Tomlinson, known for her work on beloved animated series such as Bob the Builder and Pingu, highlights the film’s dual mission of creating opportunities for female talent in the animation industry.“One of the most rewarding parts of this project was creating space for emerging female animators. For some, it was their very first film credit, and I’m proud we could be part of starting their animation career.”

The film has also garnered strong support from national hoarding charities and organisations, including Clouds End CIC, Hoarding Disorders UK, Hoarding UK and Hoarding Support, as well as professional bodies like the British Psychological Society, APDO, Age UK, and the Fire Service.

Professor Nick Neave, Director of the Hoarding Research Group, emphasises the film’s impact: “The film will form an invaluable educational tool to raise awareness about hoarding disorder, and how it can impact the person and their family. It will be useful for the general public, for people who hoard, and the professionals who deal with hoarding cases and hopefully promote more positive attitudes towards this condition.”

Jo Cooke from Hoarding Disorders UK adds: “It will help reduce the shame and help to have more open conversations about hoarding and the various reasons why we hoard.  It will help people be more curious and more compassionate and less judgemental.”

After its Hoarding Awareness Week premiere ‘Of All The Things’ will be entered into film festivals worldwide, bringing its important message to global audiences.

Following the festival run, it will be made accessible to the organisations that have supported the project, ensuring it will reach audiences who can benefit most from its message. Looking ahead, Kino Bino plans to create a hoarding training programme and support resources around the film.
