BICSc in the nineties

HEADING TOWARDS THE NEW MILLENIUM

Sadly, 1990 saw the passing of our founder, Eric Hill. However, his legacy continues with the Eric Hill Medal, presented to individuals at the Awards Dinner for their outstanding contributions to the promotion of BICSc training.

The success of education and some tight fiscal management saw the Institute begin to thrive once more during the 1990s. Dorothy Oliver took her well-earned retirement. To share a quote of the time: The Institute losing a Titan in the educational field is almost too narrow a description; in educational terms, Dorothy was the Institute.

The success of BICSc training grew on a global scale with some frequent ventures to foreign parts, particularly the Far East with Dorothy, not only supported by John, but with long-term Ambassador of BICSc, Tommy Taylor, and Peter Vickers. These visits spearheaded growth with the first accredited training centre opening on foreign soil in Malaysia.

Other key milestones of the 90s saw the first Colour-Coding project launch. To this day, we are yet to see consistency across the whole industry.

In 1998 BICSc turned another corner in business terms with the appointment of an Executive Director, along with the retirement of Colin Hasson (many will suggest he never really did retire as for many years he stayed as Life Vice President and advisor to the Council).

The first Executive Director was Mike Sweeney, supported by Chris James as Training and Education Director. The 90s also saw us welcome Professor David Bellamy OBE as President.

The end of the 20th Century saw a further move in Northampton out to Moulton Park and the launch of the Millennium Project.
