End of year message

Hello

So here we are close to the end of what’s been another challenging 12 months. We know the effects of the pandemic will keep throwing those curve balls for the foreseeable future, so with that said we thought it was important to end this year on a high note.

2021 – The year that was

This year saw BICSc grow and evolve further as we marked our 60th anniversary, this alone made us look at how far we have come since 1961, and on the journey, we have stayed true to our roots. As a membership and training organisation, we have spent a lot of time focussing on how we could improve our offering. First up was online training! March saw the launch of the BBS Virtual Training Suite, which has now seen in excess of 8,000 enrolments, it’s an impressive number, and speaks volumes about the industry’s thirst for training.

We also released the long awaited BICSc Cleaning Supervisor’s Certificate. This is the largest course in our prospectus, encompassing ‘360 degrees’ of BICSc knowledge – a backbone to a ‘career in cleaning’.

2022 will see our online platform continue to grow, and as always, we will keep you posted on what’s going on at the Institute throughout the course of the year, keep an eye on your inbox, and do visit our newsfeed on the website for the latest updates.

Onto 2022

We will be giving January a much-needed lift, as we officially launch a crisp new look, this means new logos for our Accredited Training and Corporate Members! We will be issuing those in the new year.

To help us understand how we can improve our offering and services, we will be sending out a membership survey in January, if you can spare a few minutes to complete this, we would be grateful for your feedback.

Here’s a few words from our leadership team…

From Denise Hanson, Head of Technical Services, and Neil Spencer-Cook, Chief Operating Officer

Well, it’s been another interesting year, the Chinese consider the phrase ‘may you live in interesting times’ to be a curse and some could say the year has been cursed but it has also provided new opportunities and challenges for BICSc and its members. There have been lots of changes in how BICSc can provide its training and assessment and we hope we can now offer training to a wider range of people promoting our ideals and values.

Here’s hoping that next year may be slightly less ‘interesting’ but bring health and happiness to you all.

From Stan Atkins, Chief Executive Officer

Looking back on 2021, which has been another difficult year for everybody, getting used to the new normal (whatever that is)!

For the cleaning industry there were some real positive moments such as the recognition that cleaning operatives are an essential part of the workforce. The biggest issue facing the industry as we go into 2022 is the acute shortage of people who wish to become cleaning operatives.

The Cleaning Show in London went ahead without major disruption. We were pleased that the BICSc Annual Awards, although a lunchtime event, sold out in record time, and it was great to see members, old and new, in attendance.

The Institute will go into 2022 with a hybrid approach to training and assessment, with traditional face-to-face and more online availability month by month.

From all of us here at BICSc, we would like to take this this opportunity to say a huge thank you to our members and friends of BICSc for your support, it does not go unnoticed.

Wishing you a peaceful festive season and a prosperous 2022.
