Want to be a BICSc Council member?

Have you ever wondered who helps steer the strategic direction of BICSc?
Or maybe you’ve spent years in the cleaning industry and want to make sure your experience helps shape what comes next.

If so, exciting news!

The election for Individual Member representatives is just around the corner!

This year, four of the five Individual Member seats are up for election, presenting an opportunity for you to step forward and have a real impact. As a Council member, you’ll take part in monthly teams meetings and 2 strategy days each year, working alongside industry experts to help influence the future of BICSc and the wider sector.

When does the election process begin?

The application window to stand as a BICSc Council member opens on Wednesday, 15th April 2026. Keep an eye on your inbox as you’ll receive further details and a link to submit your nomination.

Who is eligible to stand for election?

The Council is made up of both Corporate and Individual representatives, and this time we’re looking to appoint four Individual Members.

To put your name forward, you’ll need to nominate yourself and have support from two eligible BICSc members. You’ll also need to meet the following criteria:

  • Be a fully paid‑up BICSc member for at least 3 years
  • Be over 16 years old
  • Have never been employed by BICSc
  • Be eligible to stand as a company director under the           Companies Act 2006
  • Have lived in the UK for at least 6 of the last 12 months
  • Hold a valid Licence to Practice

What makes a great Council member?

It helps if you’re comfortable with leadership, making decisions, delegating tasks, and taking oversight where needed. Strong communication skills are important too, along with a good understanding of ethics, integrity, and member representation. A bit of administrative or legal awareness is always beneficial as well.

Why might you want to stand?

Joining the Council gives you the chance to influence the direction of BICSc and the wider industry, represent and support fellow members, collaborate with experienced professionals, and play a meaningful role in shaping the future of the cleaning sector.

What does the role involve?

As a Council member, you’ll take part in meetings, help oversee officers, approve strategic decisions, and help form or supervise project action groups when needed. You may also help create additional rules to support fair decision-making, and you’ll be involved in appointing, supporting, or replacing the Chairman or Deputy if and when required. Council members act as company directors, so you’ll share collective responsibility for decisions and ensure any conflicts of interest are managed properly.

During this time, you’ll submit your nomination form, make sure your membership details are correct, and ask two BICSc members to complete your support form.
