A note from the Chairman, Lorraine Davis, MBICSc
Hello BICSc Members,
I am delighted to be writing this my first Chairman’s message. I have thoroughly enjoyed my time serving on Council to date and look forward to taking the helm as Chairman, alongside Team BICSc, to continue raising the profile of the cleaning industry, and do our part to Create Careers in Cleaning both in the UK and Internationally.
For the past 40 years, I have worked in every role and market sector within the cleaning industry, for the last 12 years I have specialised in cleaning within the healthcare sector, which brings its own challenges…….like waiting for the revised 2019…or will it be 2020? NHS Cleaning Standards.
As a long-standing member of BICSc, and throughout my whole career, I have always relied on, and looked up to The British Institute of Cleaning Science to provide me and my staff with sound advice, recognised standards and cleaning training courses.
The past year has been very significant for the Institute, we have continued to move with the times in order to meet the needs of a changing industry.
One of the most important milestones for the Institute, was the launch of the BBS Training Suite which opened in July 2019, this is a real asset to BICSc and BBS, and is quite honestly one of the best training facilities I’ve seen.
I’ll have to mention the ‘B’ word……..if and when it does happen (at the time of writing it hadn’t), clearly it will have an impact on the cleaning industry….. for example, many of our frontline staff are from Eastern Europe, and along with staff there may be a potential shortage of some types of materials and consumables.
However, you can be sure whatever the future challenges are, BICSc will as ever, continue to provide our members with the advice and support they need.
My own personal goals during my term of office as Chairman are:-
There are only a select few who really know what a rewarding, fascinating and complex a career this industry can offer.
Before I sign off, I would also like to pay tribute Stan and the Team at BICSc. Their work is vitally important, and much appreciated by us all.
With best wishes
Lorraine Davis, MBICSc
